Are Dog Fences A Good Idea?
A dog that has been adopted becomes a member of the family it lives with. However, just as the safety of your family is a top priority the same is true for the safety of your dog. The problem is that it’s next to impossible to keep an eye on your dog at all times or confine it to the four walls of your home either.
After all, most dogs love to play outside too. That said, as dogs will be dogs you can be sure they’ll stray beyond the perimeter of your home at the first opportunity. In these situations, dog owners find that pet fences are effective in keeping your dog safe from outside hazards.
Here’s some information on dog fences to keep your dog safe and prevent it from making a nuisance of itself in the neighborhood
What Are The Benefits of Dog Fences?
Dog fences offer some advantages to you, but to your neighbors as well. When a dog is allowed to roam free, very often it goes into someone else’s house, and plays with their objects, maybe damaging or destroying them; people who find the dog might attack it and the dog might attack back in defense.
By having a dog fence installed, your dog won’t be able to cause damage or scare your neighbors, but at the same time, your neighbors’ dogs won’t be able to come and pick a fight with your dog either.
Regardless of the type of dog fence that you end up with, they all work effectively to contain your dog to an area, so it all comes down to a matter of preference on material, cost, or type of containment.
What Types Of Dog Fences Are There?
One of the most humane and traditional dog fences you can install is made of wood. “Wooden” dog fences are extremely durable, long lasting and can even withstand adverse weather conditions. Their disadvantages are that they are difficult to install, cost quite a bit, and they might not go with the general look of a house.
If you want something completely different, then you should try an invisible dog fence instead. These fences are also referred to as “wireless” fences and are much easier to install. Invisible pet fences use a cable with a transmitter attached to it, and are installed below ground, around the outer perimeter of a home. The transmitter sends a sound signal to the collar of the dog if it comes too close to the invisible fence. Each time the dog hears these signals, it will avoid going any further. However, if the dog attempts to leave the area, the collar will give it a small electrical discharge. You can always adjust the intensity of the shock, so that’s it’s not too strong that it hurts the dog, and not so mild that your dog can’t feel it.
Dog fences help dog owners keep their dogs inside their properties. The sooner you install one, the better. Are they useful? You bet they are.
