Relocating Animals without Hassle: Use Truck Rentals For Moving

Executing a long-distance house move is a lot of work. It is even more so when your furry friends are involved. While the human members of your family can speak up if they are too hot, too thirsty, or need a pit stop, your animal have a successful move.

You should start planning for your pet before you look into truck rentals for moving. If you are moving with the vehicle plus a personal vehicle, plan for the pet to ride in the your personal vehicle. The back of the vehicle will be dark, loud, and has no temperature control, so it is no place for a pet to sit for dozens of hours. So if you are moving with only a vehicle, ensure that the cab has enough space so your pet can sit comfortably with other passengers for the duration.

Before you bring the truck rental back to your house, make sure everything is in order for a smooth move. If your pet is happy in a crate, get them fed, watered, and walked, then load them into the crate in a safe place. This will not only keep them out of the way of the movers, it will save you the stress of searching for your lost pet who escaped out of a door that has been propped open.

Loading the moving truck rental includes some pet considerations too. Assemble food and water (and waste bags) and set them aside so they can be among the last items you load. This will make your stops much easier as you won’t have to root through your whole truck to find them.

Next, consider where you will be stopping along the way. This isn’t an issue with short trips, but for multi-day driving planning is a fuel station will have some nearby place where your animal can sniff around while you are fueling up. Just be sure to keep him on a leash and be mindful of other drivers entering and exiting the gas station. When it is time to grab a bite to eat, look for a place with outdoor seating (in the summer) or failing that, park in a way that allows both you and your pet to see each other through the window while you eat.

Finally, take extra care when your pet is entering and exiting the vehicle. Trucks can be high off the ground and after hours of sitting still, your pet will be stiff too. So either lift them up and down from the vehicle or keep a close eye on them.
